Technology Related Assistance for Individuals with Disabilities

The TRAID Project is a Federally funded program administered by the New York State Commission on Quality Care and Advocacy for Persons with Disabilites. The goal of the Capital District Regional TRAID Center is to help individuals with disabilites of all ages access services and appropriate assistive technology devices.  Assistive technolgy is one way for individuals to lead more independent productive lives.

What Services are Available from TRAID ?

Services are available to persons with disabilities of all ages, their families service providers, employers, educators, employers, and others who are interested in disability issues or assistive technology.

We promote a consumer-responsive, comprehensive system of access to assistive technology by persons with disabilities through the following services:

  • Provide  Device Demonstrations
  • Provide Information and Referrals
  • Public Awareness Education Programs
  • Early Intervention Assistive Technology Lending Library
  • Medical Equipment Lending Library
  • Assistance in Seeking Funding to Acquire Devices and/or Services

What Are Assistive Technology Devices?

Assistive technology devices are items which can be used to enable people to be more independent in many areas including the pursuit of educational opportunities,vocational goals and independent living.

Assisitive technology includes simple devices such as a cane, a hearing device or large print book as well as more complex devices that may include adaptive computer technology ,safety and monitoring devices.

Who Qualifies for TRAID Services?

General TRAID Services are available to all residents of the 9 counties served by the Capital District Regional TRAID Center as well as others who are interested in disability issues or assistive technology.

The Early Intervention component of the TRAID Project provides services to infants and toddlers from birth to three years of age.
